Justice Ashutosh Kumar Sworn In as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court; CM Sarma Extends Best Wishes

Guwahati, July 22: Justice Ashutosh Kumar was formally sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on Monday in a solemn ceremony held in Guwahati. Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office in the presence of several dignitaries, including Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and senior officials from the judiciary and state government.

Chief Minister Sarma, who attended the event, later took to social media to congratulate the newly appointed Chief Justice. In a post on micro-blogging platform X, he wrote,
“Attended the oath-taking ceremony of Justice Ashutosh Kumar, who has been sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. My best wishes for his tenure.”

Justice Kumar brings with him vast judicial experience, having previously served as a judge in both the Patna High Court and the Delhi High Court.

Governor Acharya also extended his congratulations on social media, stating,
“Today in Guwahati, Hon’ble Justice Ashutosh Kumar Ji was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. On this occasion, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Ji, along with senior officials from the High Court and State Government, were also present. Hearty congratulations and best wishes to him for the successful discharge of this important responsibility.”

The appointment of Justice Kumar is expected to further strengthen the judicial system in the Northeast region, especially under the jurisdiction of the Gauhati High Court, which serves multiple northeastern states.
