A district-wide leprosy case detection survey for the 2025–26 period will be carried out in Kamrup Metropolitan under the initiative of the Joint Directorate of Health Services, Kamrup Metropolitan, as part of sustained public health interventions.

The survey will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase scheduled from December 15 to December 28, 2025, followed by the second phase from January 5 to January 18, 2026.

During the exercise, health teams will conduct door-to-door screenings of all residents aged two years and above. The examinations will focus on identifying skin-related conditions, particularly symptoms such as loss of sensation or touch, absence of itching, painless lesions, and the appearance of white, reddish, or copper-coloured patches. ASHA workers, along with one male health worker, will assist in carrying out the survey.

Health officials stated that the initiative is aimed at early identification of leprosy and other skin diseases, ensuring free and timely treatment, and preventing disability caused by delayed diagnosis. The survey is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening community health surveillance and supporting efforts toward the elimination of leprosy.
