Several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs from Manipur, including former Chief Minister N Biren Singh, departed for New Delhi on Saturday to attend a meeting called by the party’s central leadership to review the state’s political situation and explore the possibility of forming a government.

According to party sources, the MLAs travelling to the national capital include Achab Uddin, Sagolsem Kebi, Thongam Bishwajit, Paonam Brojen, Kh Ibomcha, Thokchom Satyabrata, K Robindro and Tongbram Robindro, along with other BJP legislators.

The meeting is scheduled to be held at the BJP’s national headquarters in Delhi at 4 pm on Sunday, December 14, sources said.

The development comes at a critical time as Manipur continues to face political uncertainty. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Biren Singh said the party’s central leadership had summoned all BJP MLAs to New Delhi, adding that no specific agenda was mentioned. He indicated that discussions could be related to government formation.

Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February 13, following Biren Singh’s resignation as Chief Minister on February 9. The state has remained tense since ethnic violence erupted on May 3, 2023, an unrest that has claimed over 260 lives and displaced more than 60,000 people.
