Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Assam on Saturday to inaugurate and flag off a series of development initiatives valued at more than Rs 5,450 crore, focusing on connectivity, digital infrastructure, higher education and urban mobility in the North-Eastern region.
As per the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the visit will commence around 10.30 am with the Prime Minister landing at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh. During the event, he will witness an aerial demonstration by Indian Air Force fighter jets, transport aircraft and helicopters. The ELF, developed in collaboration with the Indian Air Force, is the first such facility in the North-East and is designed to support both military and civilian aircraft operations during emergencies.
Later, Prime Minister Modi will review the newly constructed Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu over the Brahmaputra River. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 3,030 crore, the six-lane bridge links Guwahati with North Guwahati and marks the region’s first extradosed bridge. The project is expected to cut travel time between the two banks to nearly seven minutes and features advanced safety and surveillance systems.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the National Data Centre for the North-Eastern Region at Amingaon in Kamrup district. The centre will host essential government digital platforms and function as a disaster recovery hub for other national data centres.
Strengthening the education sector, PM Modi will inaugurate the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati, a key step towards enhancing higher education infrastructure in the region.
In the transport sector, he will flag off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme. Of these, 100 buses will be deployed in Guwahati, while the remaining will operate in Nagpur, Bhavnagar and Chandigarh. The initiative aims to promote clean, affordable and dependable public transport in urban areas.
