Dhemaji: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Monday visited a five-day Vedic Mathematics workshop being organised for school teachers at Dhemaji Town Vidyapith High School, aimed at strengthening innovative teaching practices and improving the quality of mathematics education.
According to the Minister, the workshop, which began a day earlier, is being conducted under the aegis of Samagra Shiksha Assam. The programme is designed to equip teachers with simple, quick, and application-oriented techniques of Vedic Mathematics, enabling them to make classroom teaching more engaging and effective for students.
In a post on social media platform X, Pegu said the initiative seeks to transform the teaching–learning process of mathematics by introducing methods that enhance conceptual clarity and problem-solving speed, while reducing students’ fear of the subject.
The Education Minister noted that the workshop is aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP), which emphasises experiential learning, competency-based education, and the integration of India’s traditional knowledge systems into modern curricula.
He further stated that such initiatives would help bridge the gap between contemporary education and India’s rich intellectual heritage, while also contributing to overall improvements in school education standards across the state.
Officials associated with Samagra Shiksha Assam said the five-day training programme focuses on practical demonstrations, interactive sessions, and hands-on practice, allowing teachers to effectively adopt Vedic Mathematics techniques in their classrooms.
The workshop is expected to have a cascading impact, as trained teachers will introduce these methods to students, helping to improve learning outcomes and foster greater interest in mathematics at the school level.
The visit underscores the state government’s continued emphasis on teacher capacity-building and innovative pedagogy as key drivers of education reform in Assam.
