The Director of Secondary Education, Assam, Mamata Hojai, has issued a statewide directive to all Inspectors of Schools, detailing a set of mandatory operational guidelines for the 2025–26 academic session. These measures, finalized during a video conference held on May 19, 2025, are aimed at standardizing administrative practices and enhancing the academic atmosphere in secondary schools across the state.
Key provisions under the directive include:
Mandatory Reporting Time for Teachers:
All teachers must report to their respective schools before 9:00 AM and leave according to the school’s academic calendar. Their entry and exit times must be recorded accurately using the Shiksha Setu mobile application.
Daily Student Attendance Monitoring:
Class teachers will be held directly responsible for maintaining daily student attendance records. These entries must be cross-verified and signed off by the head of the institution.
Duty Hours for Non-Teaching Staff:
Non-teaching personnel are required to report to duty by 10:00 AM and stay until 4:30 PM. They must also be prepared to submit official reports as and when required.
PGT Teachers’ Involvement in High School Classes:
All Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) are to be actively engaged in teaching the high school sections. School timetables must include their classes accordingly to ensure academic enrichment at all levels.
Record Maintenance and Accountability:
School heads are tasked with overall compliance. They must maintain physical records of staff attendance and class engagement, which will serve as documentation for future inspection and verification.
This directive—issued under an official memo number—seeks to improve operational efficiency, promote discipline, and ensure greater accountability among teaching and non-teaching staff. The Department of Secondary Education hopes that these measures will contribute significantly to elevating the quality of education in Assam’s secondary schools.
