Tremors Felt in Arunachal’s Tirap as 3.5 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Region

Itanagar, July 28, 2025 — An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale struck Tirap district in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday evening, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

The tremor occurred at 6:36 PM IST and was recorded at a depth of 7 km, with the epicenter located at Latitude 27.06° N and Longitude 95.42° E, as confirmed by NCS in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“EQ of M: 3.5, On: 28/07/2025 18:36:23 IST, Lat: 27.06 N, Long: 95.42 E, Depth: 7 Km, Location: Tirap, Arunachal Pradesh,” the NCS post read.

No reports of injuries, casualties, or major damage have been received so far. Authorities, however, are monitoring the situation closely.

This is the third reported earthquake in the northeastern region in just over a week:

On July 21, a 3.4 magnitude quake struck Upper Subansiri district in Arunachal Pradesh at 10:59 PM, at a shallow depth of 5 km.

Earlier, on July 20, Nagaon district in Assam experienced a 2.9 magnitude tremor at 12:56 AM, with a depth of 40 km.

The repeated seismic activity has raised concerns among experts, as the Northeast region of India lies in a high seismic zone. Residents are urged to stay alert and follow safety protocols during future tremors.
