Guwahati, March 7: Guwahati Police apprehended two individuals and recovered an illegal firearm during a patrol operation in the Panjabari area of the city, officials said on Saturday.
According to a post by Guwahati Police on X, a team from Dispur Police Station under the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) intercepted a suspect during a PaPa (Pragya–Patrol) patrol near Bagharbari Chowk in Panjabari.
The accused has been identified as Krishna Das (29), a resident of Botahguli in Panjabari. During the interception, police recovered a 7.65 mm pistol along with one magazine and three live rounds from his possession.
During preliminary interrogation, Krishna Das reportedly revealed that the firearm had been supplied by Akhilesh Yadav (40), a native of Muzaffarpur in Bihar. Yadav is currently running a salon at Hatigaon Chariali in Guwahati.
Acting swiftly on the information provided by the first accused, police detained the second suspect, Akhilesh Yadav. During questioning, Yadav allegedly admitted that he had brought the pistol from Bihar and handed it over to Krishna Das around a month ago with the intention of selling it at a higher price.
Police officials stated that further investigation is currently underway. Authorities are conducting technical analysis and verifying the antecedents of the accused to determine whether they are linked to any wider illegal arms network.
The recovery highlights the continued efforts of Guwahati Police to curb illegal arms trafficking and maintain security in the city through regular patrols and intelligence-based operations.
