Guwahati, Aug 12 — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a significant environmental turnaround in Uriamghat, where large tracts of encroached forest land have been reclaimed and brought under afforestation.
Sharing an update on X, Sarma said, “From illegal houses to lush green forests — Uriamghat is set to witness a major transformation in its landscape. After evicting people from the forest land, we have planted saplings in over 133 hectares of land in Uriamghat in Phase I. Reclaim lands, create forests, save Assam.”

A video posted alongside showcased the revival of 1,000 bighas in the first phase, highlighting the slogan — “From encroached to green, the march of afforestation has begun.”
The initiative is part of the state’s larger goal to ensure that every encroached patch of land is freed and restored to its natural state, with a vision that “Every inch of our land will be free, every patch will bloom again.”
The project not only aims to restore ecological balance but also strengthen Assam’s fight against deforestation and illegal land encroachments.
