Nagaland University, the only Central university in the state, has been selected to host one of four incubation centres in the northeastern region under a major Central government initiative, officials confirmed on Monday.<\/p>\n
The initiative, titled \u201cEstablish, Develop, and Manage Entrepreneurship Development Centres and Incubation Centres in the Educational Institutes of the North Eastern Region,\u201d is sponsored by the Shillong-based North Eastern Council (NEC) and implemented by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati.<\/p>\n
As part of the project, the 50 top-performing beneficiaries will receive a startup seed fund of up to \u20b95 lakh each, according to university officials.<\/p>\n
The NEC serves as the nodal planning agency for the economic and social advancement of the eight northeastern states \u2014 Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. The IIE operates under the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n
Nagaland University\u2019s Kohima campus has been officially designated as one of the four incubation centres, with the first batch set to include 44 incubates. These include 16 from Arunachal Pradesh, 6 from Assam, 4 from Manipur, and 18 from Nagaland. The onboarding process for the incubates will take place in July 2025.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the achievement, Nagaland University Vice-Chancellor Jagadish K. Patnaik expressed pride in the university\u2019s selection.
