The Lawyers\u2019 Association, Guwahati (LAG) on Tuesday staged a day-long hunger strike opposing the state government\u2019s plan to relocate its riverside office building as part of a riverfront beautification project.<\/p>\n
Members of the association observed the protest from 9 am to 4 pm outside the office, reiterating that the proposed relocation would disrupt judicial functioning. The LAG has consistently opposed the shifting of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court to a temporary location, warning that any further relocation would adversely affect access to justice.<\/p>\n
The association recalled that a similar hunger strike was organised on December 27 as part of its ongoing agitation. Continuing its protest, the LAG has also decided to boycott the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Gauhati High Court at Rongmahal scheduled for January 11.<\/p>\n
LAG leaders said the protest would continue until the government withdraws the relocation proposal and addresses concerns related to judicial infrastructure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
