Shillong, April 22: Conrad K Sangma held a detailed interaction with traditional village heads, known as Rangbah Shnong, to address pressing grassroots issues affecting communities across Meghalaya.<\/p>\n
The meeting, which also included Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and Minister Sosthenes Sohtun, focused on multiple sectors ranging from water supply to agriculture and infrastructure development.<\/p>\n
During the discussion, community leaders raised concerns about the implementation and sustainability of water sources under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Issues related to inconsistent supply and maintenance challenges were highlighted, indicating the need for improved monitoring and support systems.<\/p>\n
Agriculture and allied activities also featured prominently in the dialogue. Local poultry and pig farmers expressed distress over falling market prices, which have significantly impacted their livelihoods. Particular concern was voiced over the declining demand and sale of locally reared pigs, a traditional and economically important sector in the state.<\/p>\n
Responding to these issues, Sangma reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to promoting local pig farming and enhancing institutional support for farmers. He emphasized the importance of strengthening market linkages and ensuring better price realisation for local produce.<\/p>\n
