Guwahati, April 28: The East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Sonapur Police Station has arrested four persons in connection with an alleged fraud case involving the sale of a second-hand vehicle, police said on Monday.<\/p>\n
According to a statement shared by Guwahati Police on X, the accused allegedly duped a victim of \u20b95 lakh on the pretext of selling a used Maruti Suzuki Brezza bearing registration number AS01GJ0706.<\/p>\n
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rahul Choudhury (27), Amit Boro (19), Rajibul Haque (22) and Bhagyashree Boro (28). All four are residents of Sonapur.<\/p>\n
Police stated that the accused allegedly convinced the victim to pay the amount by promising to sell the second-hand vehicle. However, after receiving the money, the deal reportedly did not materialize, leading to the registration of a fraud case.<\/p>\n
Acting on the complaint, the EGPD team of Sonapur Police Station launched an investigation and subsequently apprehended the four accused persons.<\/p>\n
Officials said legal proceedings have already been initiated against the accused under relevant sections of law. Further investigation is currently underway to determine whether the accused were involved in similar fraud activities targeting other people.<\/p>\n
The case has once again highlighted the growing number of online and offline vehicle sale scams, where fraudsters lure buyers with attractive deals on second-hand cars and motorcycles before disappearing with the money.<\/p>\n
Police have advised citizens to exercise caution while purchasing used vehicles and to verify ownership documents, registration details and seller credentials before making any payment. Authorities also urged buyers to avoid transferring large sums without proper legal documentation and physical verification of the vehicle.<\/p>\n
