Guwahati, April 29:<\/strong> The hearing in the death case of celebrated Assamese singer Zubeen Garg continued at a fast-track court in Guwahati on Tuesday, with arguments presented over the bail application filed by one of the key accused, Siddharth Sharma.<\/p>\n

Sharma, who earlier served as the singer\u2019s manager, appeared before the court as his counsel defended his role in connection with the case. During the proceedings, the defence argued that Sharma\u2019s duties were limited to handling the professional affairs of the artiste, including organising performances, coordinating programmes and managing public engagements.<\/p>\n

According to the defence lawyer, Sharma was never entrusted with responsibilities related to the singer\u2019s personal security or safety arrangements. The counsel contended that it would be unfair to hold him responsible for the incident linked to the singer\u2019s alleged drowning during a private gathering in Singapore.
\nThe prosecution, however, opposed the arguments made by the defence and maintained that the accused could not be completely separated from the circumstances surrounding the incident. The public prosecutor stressed that the matter required detailed examination before any relief could be granted.<\/p>\n

The hearing was conducted before a special fast-track court established to ensure speedy proceedings in the high-profile case. After hearing submissions from both sides, the court concluded arguments on the bail petition.<\/p>\n

Advocate Pradipta Talukdar, representing Garima Saikia Garg, later told reporters that the court has reserved its order on Sharma\u2019s bail plea. The verdict is expected to be pronounced on May 2.<\/p>\n

The court is also scheduled to hear charges on the same day against two other accused, Paresh Baishya and Nandeswar Bora, who were reportedly assigned as personal security officers to the late singer. Proceedings involving the remaining accused persons will be taken up separately in the coming days.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Partha Goswami, a former associate and bandmate of Zubeen Garg, reiterated his demand for justice in the case. Speaking to mediapersons outside the court, Goswami said the singer\u2019s immense contribution to Assamese music, culture and society should always be remembered and respected.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
