Pawan Khera on Wednesday appeared before the Assam Crime Branch in Guwahati in connection with a defamation case lodged by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma over remarks allegedly made during a press conference.<\/p>\n
Khera arrived at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) at around 10:30 AM to cooperate with the investigation, as directed earlier by the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n
Speaking to reporters outside the Crime Branch office, advocate Reetam Singh said the Congress leader\u2019s appearance was part of the conditions laid down by the apex court while granting him anticipatory bail in the matter.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Supreme Court had granted anticipatory bail to Pawan Khera with the condition that he must appear before the Assam Police and assist in the investigation,\u201d Singh said.<\/p>\n
The case stems from statements allegedly made by Khera during a press conference, where he reportedly raised questions regarding properties purportedly linked to Riniki Bhuyan Sharma in multiple countries. The comments had sparked a major political controversy and later resulted in legal action.<\/p>\n
According to Khera\u2019s counsel, the Congress leader appeared before investigators with documents and materials that he claims support the statements made during the press conference.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has submitted evidence on the basis of which those remarks were made,\u201d advocate Singh stated.<\/p>\n
The lawyer further indicated that the investigation could continue for an extended period considering the seriousness and complexity of the allegations involved in the case.<\/p>\n
The matter has drawn significant political attention in Assam, with leaders from both the ruling and opposition parties closely monitoring the developments.
