The Inland Water Transport (IWT) Department announced the suspension as a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety amid strong river currents and unsafe navigation conditions caused by ongoing monsoon rains.<\/p>\n<p>The suspension includes ferry services to and from Umananda Temple, a popular pilgrimage and tourist destination located on an islet in the middle of the Brahmaputra River. As the temple is primarily accessible by water, authorities have temporarily halted ferry operations to the island due to safety concerns.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, all ferry routes connecting the north and south banks of the Brahmaputra have been suspended, affecting thousands of daily commuters who depend on water transport for their regular travel.
