Jorhat, Assam, August 15, 2026:<\/strong> An ongoing verification drive into recruitment documents in Assam’s Jorhat district has uncovered 11 more cases in which candidates are suspected of submitting forged Permanent Resident Certificates (PRCs) or domicile documents, according to the district administration.<\/p>\n

The latest findings emerged while officials revisited recruitment-related records covering the period from 2022 to 2026. The review was initiated after agencies involved in recruitment sought confirmation of documents submitted by candidates claiming Assam or Jorhat residency.<\/p>\n

According to Jorhat Additional Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Bora, the candidates identified in the latest exercise are allegedly from outside Assam but had presented documents showing them as residents of the state or Jorhat. The alleged use of such certificates could have helped them meet domicile requirements for recruitment.<\/p>\n

Candidates Linked to Central Forces<\/strong><\/p>\n

Several of the candidates under scrutiny are associated with major central armed and security organisations.<\/p>\n

The individuals identified include Arjun Sinwar, Netra Pal, Satish Chandra, Narendra Kumar, Hargobind Singh and Danbir Singh, who were linked to the Border Security Force (BSF).<\/p>\n

The list also includes Arun Meena, associated with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), along with Rahul Singh, Pawan Kumar and Aman Kumar Patel, who were linked to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).<\/p>\n

Girish Chandra, meanwhile, was identified as being linked to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).<\/p>\n

The district administration has forwarded its verification findings and FIR-related documents to the respective recruitment authorities and units for further necessary action.<\/p>\n

Discrepancies Found During Verification<\/strong><\/p>\n

The suspected irregularities came to light when officials compared the certificate details submitted by candidates with government records.<\/p>\n

In some instances, officials reportedly found that the certificate numbers mentioned in the applications did not correspond to genuine PRCs. Instead, the numbers were associated with different documents in official records.<\/p>\n

Authorities also detected cases involving allegedly fabricated caste certificates, adding another dimension to the document verification process.<\/p>\n

The findings have raised concerns over whether forged documents were being systematically prepared for use in recruitment applications.<\/p>\n

Possible Use of Digital Tools Under Examination<\/strong><\/p>\n

Officials have so far stopped short of alleging that government employees were involved in producing the documents.<\/p>\n

Bora said the Deputy Commissioner’s office did not appear to be directly involved, citing the online verification system through which PRCs can be checked.<\/p>\n

However, he raised the possibility that digital technology or artificial intelligence-based tools could have been used to create or manipulate some of the disputed documents. Whether such technology was actually involved will have to be established through further investigation.<\/p>\n

Pattern Similar to Earlier Jorhat Case<\/strong><\/p>\n

The latest findings have similarities with a separate case detected in Jorhat in June 2026, when authorities reportedly uncovered forged residency and other certificates allegedly used by six people from outside Assam while seeking recruitment in central security forces.<\/p>\n

That investigation was also triggered when recruiting agencies requested verification of candidates’ documents. The subsequent checks allegedly revealed discrepancies involving PRCs and other certificates, leading to the registration of a police case.<\/p>\n

Officials have said the documents examined in the latest cases resemble those found during the earlier investigation.<\/p>\n

Concern Over Impact on Local Recruitment<\/strong><\/p>\n

The developments have raised concerns over the possible misuse of domicile-based eligibility provisions in recruitment. If candidates who do not meet the required residency criteria are able to obtain forged documents, genuine applicants who qualify under those provisions could potentially be affected.<\/p>\n

The issue may also extend beyond Jorhat. Bora indicated that he had encountered similar certificate-related cases during his earlier posting in Sonitpur and suggested that other districts could also have cases requiring scrutiny.<\/p>\n

Authorities are continuing to verify recruitment records and certificates. As the examination progresses, officials may identify additional discrepancies or cases linked to the suspected document-forgery network.<\/p>\n

The investigation will ultimately have to establish how the allegedly forged certificates were created, who facilitated their preparation and whether they were knowingly used by candidates during recruitment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
