Guwahati:<\/strong> Commuters relying on app-based transport in Guwahati may see services return to normal after protesting drivers decided to put their indefinite agitation on hold following discussions with Assam Transport Department officials.<\/p>\n The decision was taken on Wednesday, when representatives of the Guwahati Online Cab Drivers\u2019 Society met officials to discuss their concerns over fares and the rising cost of operating commercial vehicles. Drivers said the department has assured them that the issues will be taken up within a period of 14 days.<\/p>\n A significant development during the meeting was the disclosure that the Commissioner of Transport, Assam, has issued show-cause notices to a number of app-based cab aggregators. The companies have reportedly been given 14 days to respond to concerns relating to alleged regulatory violations.<\/p>\n The drivers began their protest over fare-related issues, arguing that the rates offered through app-based platforms are no longer sufficient to cover fuel, maintenance and other day-to-day expenses. Drivers operating vehicles associated with Ola, Uber and Rapido have been seeking a revision of minimum fares.<\/p>\n Their key demand includes a minimum rate of Rs 25 per kilometre for hatchbacks and Rs 30 per kilometre for sedans. They have also sought payment for waiting time and cancellations, which they say would provide better compensation when a trip is delayed or cancelled.<\/p>\n The agitation had its impact on Guwahati\u2019s app-based transportation network, with cab, auto-rickshaw and bike services being affected during the protest. The strike had entered its second day when the drivers reached an understanding with the Transport Department.<\/p>\n For now, the drivers have agreed to wait for the 14-day period and assess the action taken by the authorities.
