The restrictions are designed to curb vehicular emissions and reduce air pollution during the winter season, when deteriorating air quality poses a serious challenge to residents.<\/p>\n<p>The new regulations prohibit petrol and diesel vehicles registered outside Delhi from entering the capital if they fail to meet Bharat Stage VI (BS-VI) emission standards. The restrictions, which will remain in force until January 31, 2027, are expected to affect thousands of commuters travelling from neighbouring cities such as Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad.<\/p>\n<p>Delhi Traffic Police has clarified that BS-VI-compliant vehicles, CNG-powered vehicles, electric vehicles and those covered by official exemptions will be permitted entry under prescribed conditions. Interstate buses failing to meet emission standards will face restrictions, while trucks travelling to destinations beyond Delhi must use peripheral expressways. Tractors and locally modified vehicles will also be regulated under applicable rules.<\/p>\n<p>Enforcement teams have been deployed to monitor compliance, supported by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and digital monitoring systems. Motorists without valid Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC) may face penalties, while the government&#8217;s &#8216;No PUC, No Fuel&#8217; policy prevents vehicles with invalid pollution certificates from obtaining fuel at designated outlets.<\/p>\n<p>The pollution-control programme also includes 50 per cent work-from-home arrangements for government and private offices, staggered working hours, increased parking charges and restrictions on dust-generating construction activities. Essential services and certain infrastructure projects will remain exempt under specified conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has appealed to residents to support the government&#8217;s efforts to improve air quality. Commuters have been advised to verify their vehicles&#8217; emission standards and pollution certificates before travelling to avoid fines or entry restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>The government aims to strengthen winter pollution management through coordinated enforcement and public cooperation.
