Cachar Police have seized a large consignment of Yaba tablets valued at approximately ₹27 crore during an anti-narcotics operation in Assam’s Rongpur area, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday.
According to the Chief Minister, the operation led to the recovery of around 90,000 Yaba tablets from a vehicle that was entering Assam from a neighbouring state. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure. Praising the police action, Sarma shared details of the operation on social media platform X, commending Cachar Police and the Assam Police for the successful crackdown.
Providing further details, Cachar Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das told the media that the operation was carried out in the Rongpur area under Silchar Police Station limits. He said a truck bearing registration number AS-01FC-0018 was intercepted during the operation, and the narcotics were recovered from a concealed chamber inside the vehicle.
The arrested persons were identified as Dalim Uddin Laskar and Abed Sultan Barbhuiya, both residents of areas under Dholai Police Station. The truck was reportedly heading towards Guwahati at the time of interception.
SP Das added that legal proceedings have been initiated and investigations are underway to trace both forward and backward links of the narcotics network involved.
