A young man suffered serious injuries after a hit-and-run accident on National Highway 37 near Bor Chapori under Bokakhat police station on Friday evening. The victim has been identified as Milan Sonowal, a resident of Kamargaon.

According to reports, Sonowal was travelling towards Numaligarh on his scooter bearing registration number AS05V8200 when an unidentified vehicle coming from the opposite direction collided with him. The vehicle sped away immediately after the crash, leaving the injured rider on the road.

Local residents rushed to help and initially took him to Bokakhat Kamala Miri Civil Hospital. As his condition was critical, he was later referred to Jorhat for further treatment.

Police personnel from the Bokakhat traffic branch reached the accident site soon after and began an investigation into the incident.

Residents in the area have raised concerns over the increasing number of road mishaps between Numaligarh and Bokakhat, blaming the poor condition of the highway. Deep potholes along this stretch are reportedly contributing to frequent accidents, prompting renewed calls for urgent repair and road safety measures.
