Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has confirmed that the family of the late singer Zubeen Garg will choose the location for his final rites. While the government has suggested several options, including a site near Sonapur, the family’s decision will be final.
Authorities are coordinating with local residents to ensure the arrangements proceed smoothly. Hatimura in Kamarkuchi, Sonapur, has been identified as a strong possibility for the cremation, with nearly 30 bighas of land set aside. An official announcement regarding the location is expected by Sunday evening.
Zubeen Garg’s body arrived in Guwahati early Sunday morning and was taken to his Kahilipara residence. Following private family rituals, the singer’s mortal remains will be placed at the Sarusajai Sports Complex, where thousands of fans are expected to gather to pay homage to one of Assam’s most cherished cultural icons.
