In a major crackdown on drug trafficking in Assam’s Barak Valley, security forces have seized narcotics worth approximately ₹14 crore in Cachar district following a joint anti-narcotics operation at Tolengram. The operation dealt a significant blow to organised drug peddling networks active in the region.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared details of the seizure on X, lauding the Cachar Police and the Directorate General of Assam Rifles (DGAR) for their coordinated action. According to the Chief Minister, the operation led to the recovery of 154 soap cases of heroin along with 10,000 YABA tablets. One person has been arrested in connection with the seizure.
Calling the recovery a “big blow to drug peddlers in Cachar,” Sarma congratulated the security agencies for their vigilance and effective coordination in intercepting the consignment before it could reach the market.
Responding to the Chief Minister’s post, Assam Police expressed gratitude for his guidance and continued support in the fight against narcotics. In a statement on X, Assam Police reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and protecting communities from the social and economic damage caused by drug abuse. The force also praised Cachar Police for their role in the successful operation.
Officials said the joint action was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs, leading to the interception of the drugs at Tolengram. The seized heroin and YABA tablets are suspected to be part of a larger interstate or cross-border trafficking network, and further investigation is underway to identify other individuals involved.
The latest seizure adds to a series of anti-drug operations carried out across Assam in recent months, reflecting the state government’s intensified campaign against narcotics. Authorities have reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against those involved, and enforcement agencies will continue sustained operations to curb drug trafficking across both the Brahmaputra and Barak valleys.
