62 Cattle Rescued, Five Arrested in Guwahati Police Operation

Guwahati, June 8: In a major operation against illegal cattle transportation, Guwahati Police rescued 62 cattle and arrested five individuals after intercepting two vehicles in the city.

According to a post shared by Guwahati Police on X, a team from Gorchuk Police Station under the West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) stopped two vehicles bearing registration numbers NL01AA9211 and AS01DD8109 during a special operation. Upon inspection, police recovered a total of 62 cattle being transported in the vehicles.

The five arrested individuals have been identified as Hazarat Ali (30) of Goalpara, Samir Ali (20) of Samaguri, Nur Safi Sheikh (19) of Agia, Aahed Ali (33) of Nalbari and Nur Mahamd Ali (24), also from Nalbari district.

Police stated that legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and destination of the cattle and determine whether a larger network is involved.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by Assam Police to curb illegal cattle transportation and related activities across the state.
