In a devastating incident in Saudi Arabia, more than 45 Umrah pilgrims lost their lives after their bus collided with a fuel tanker near Medina in the early hours of Monday. Preliminary reports suggest that over 40 of the deceased were Indian nationals, with a large number reportedly from Telangana’s Hyderabad region.
The accident occurred near Mufrihat as the pilgrims were travelling from Mecca to Medina after completing Umrah rituals. The collision triggered a massive fire, engulfing the bus within moments and leaving almost no time for passengers to escape. Many onboard were believed to be asleep when the crash happened.
Local media outlets have reported that the intensity of the blaze has made recovery and identification extremely difficult. Among the victims are believed to be women and children, though official figures are still being verified. One pilgrim, identified as Mohd Abdul Shoiab, reportedly survived and is undergoing treatment in hospital.
