Ranoj Pegu on Friday announced a major achievement for Assam’s education sector, stating that the state has made a significant leap in the national Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2.0 rankings for 2024–25 released by the Ministry of Education.

According to Pegu, Assam climbed from the 27th position to the 12th rank among all States and Union Territories in the country, marking an impressive jump of 15 places within a single year. He described it as one of the biggest improvements recorded nationally.

Sharing the update on X, the Assam Education Minister said the state’s overall PGI score improved from 511.5 to 593.6. With this progress, Assam moved from the “Akanshi-2” category to the “Prachesta-3” grade.

Pegu further highlighted that Assam achieved the “Uttam-3” grade in Governance Processes, placing the state among only four States and Union Territories in India to attain this level.

The minister credited the achievement to the collective efforts of teachers, students, education department officials, and other stakeholders working towards improving school education across the state.

The Performance Grading Index (PGI) is an assessment framework developed by the Ministry of Education to evaluate the performance of school education systems across Indian states and Union Territories on various parameters, including learning outcomes, governance, infrastructure, and access to education.

The achievement is being seen as a significant boost for Assam’s education sector under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state education department.
