Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday congratulated Suvendu Adhikari after he reportedly took oath as the first Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal.

In a post shared on X, Sarma described the development as a “historic” moment for Bengal and extended his best wishes to Adhikari and the newly inducted Council of Ministers, including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu, and Nisith Pramanik.

“History is scripted in Bengal,” Sarma wrote, adding that the new administration under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi would work towards securing borders, safeguarding the state’s identity, and bringing development and investment back to Bengal.

The Assam Chief Minister also paid tribute to BJP workers in West Bengal, stating that the political development was a recognition of the sacrifices made by party karyakartas over the years.

In his message, Sarma further described the moment as a “new chapter” in the civilisational journey of eastern India, mentioning regions such as Anga, Banga, Kalinga, and Pragjyotish. He also invoked several revered Hindu spiritual sites and deities associated with eastern India, including Maa Kamakhya, Maa Tripura Sundari, Maa Tara Tarini, Maa Kali, and Maa Janaki.

The statement comes amid reports of the BJP forming the government in West Bengal following its reported victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.
