Former Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia has congratulated Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the NDA’s victory in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections and wished him a successful and people-oriented tenure.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Saikia expressed hope that Assam would witness peace, development and social harmony during the new government’s five-year term. He also urged the government to address several important issues, including implementation of the Assam Accord, deportation of illegal infiltrators and granting Scheduled Tribe status to six communities of the state.
The Congress leader further appealed to the government to restore unity among different ethnic and linguistic groups following tensions during the election period. He also requested speedy investigation into the death of Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg and support for his family.
