In a major breakthrough against vehicle theft in Guwahati, the city police arrested a 27-year-old man and recovered a stolen Honda Activa scooty during an operation carried out by the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD).
According to a post shared by Guwahati Police on X, a team from Basistha Police Station arrested Sahil Ahmed, a resident of Badarpur, after he was found in possession of a stolen Activa scooty bearing registration number AS01BZ5884.
Police said the two-wheeler had been reported stolen from Lokhra Bazaar on May 16, 2026. Acting on intelligence and investigation leads, the EGPD team traced the vehicle and apprehended the accused.
The recovered scooty has been seized, and legal proceedings have already been initiated against the accused.
Vehicle theft has remained a concern in several parts of Guwahati, particularly in busy commercial and residential areas. In recent months, Basistha Police and other police units under the Guwahati Police Commissionerate have intensified operations targeting organized bike and scooty theft networks. Multiple stolen two-wheelers have been recovered in separate crackdowns across the city.
Police officials have urged citizens to remain vigilant while parking vehicles in marketplaces and crowded localities. Residents have also been advised to use additional locking systems and immediately report suspicious activities to nearby police stations.
The investigation is continuing to determine whether the accused has links to a larger inter-district vehicle theft racket operating in Assam and neighboring regions.
