Guwahati Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory announcing complete closure of vehicular movement on the old Saraighat Bridge for eight hours to facilitate urgent repair work.

According to the advisory, the bridge will remain closed from 10:00 PM on May 21 till 6:00 AM on May 22. The temporary traffic block has been requested by Northeast Frontier Railway for emergency repairs on the road deck at the Jalukbari end of the bridge.

An official communication issued by the Senior Section Engineer of N.F. Railway stated that the repair work became necessary due to damage caused by the onset of the monsoon. Authorities said heavy machinery will be used during the maintenance operation, making complete closure essential to ensure safety of both workers and commuters.

The railway authorities further informed that the repair work cannot be carried out safely under partial traffic conditions. Traffic police officials have advised commuters to plan their travel in advance and use alternative routes during the closure period.

The advisory also mentioned that coordination between railway officials, local police and traffic personnel will continue throughout the operation to ensure smooth execution of the repair work and timely reopening of the bridge after completion of the maintenance activities.
