Guwahati, June 23: In a move aimed at strengthening legislative effectiveness, the Assam Legislative Assembly will conduct a two-day orientation and training programme for its members ahead of the forthcoming Budget Session. The announcement was made by Assembly Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Monday.
The programme, scheduled for July 4 and 5, will focus on familiarizing legislators with the rules, procedures, and day-to-day functioning of the Assembly before the Budget Session begins on July 6. According to the Speaker, the initiative is particularly intended to assist the 47 newly elected MLAs currently serving in the House, although senior and experienced legislators will also be encouraged to attend.
Dass said the training sessions will help members gain a deeper understanding of parliamentary conventions, legislative practices, and the responsibilities associated with effective participation in Assembly proceedings. The programme is expected to enhance the overall functioning of the House by equipping legislators with practical knowledge of legislative processes.
A number of distinguished personalities have been invited as resource persons for the event. These include former Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami, former Deputy Speaker Numal Momin, Assam Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika, and Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University Samudra Gupta Kashyap. Several other experts and senior officials are also expected to contribute to the training sessions.
