Tinsukia: The process of revising electoral rolls for the upcoming Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC) general elections has officially commenced in Assam’s Tinsukia district. The exercise is being carried out following directives issued by the Assam State Election Commission under the Assam Autonomous Council Election Rules, 2010, with January 1, 2026, fixed as the qualifying date for voter eligibility.

The revision covers six SKAC constituencies in the district—Sadiya, Chabua, Dangari, Dirak Chumoni, Tinsukia and Burhi Dihing. Officials said that after the recent delimitation, only the designated “Sonowal parts” of villages falling within these constituencies will be included in the updated electoral rolls. Electoral Registration Officers are currently aligning the November 2025 council electoral roll with the latest Assam Assembly electoral roll published in February 2026.

According to the schedule, preliminary administrative work will be completed by June 28, while the formal revision process will be conducted from June 29 to July 9. The draft electoral roll will be published on July 10 for public scrutiny.

Residents will be able to file claims and objections until July 25. Election authorities will dispose of all claims and objections by August 1, after which the final electoral roll will be published on August 3, paving the way for the conduct of the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council elections.
