Guwahati: In a major anti-narcotics operation, the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) conducted a successful raid at a hideout in Sagalpara, Lokhra under the jurisdiction of Basistha Police Station, leading to the seizure of 14 kilograms of suspected ganja and the arrest of a 21-year-old accused.
The accused has been identified as Ajay Mahato, also known as Lalu, a resident of Lutuma. Acting on specific intelligence, the police team carried out the raid and recovered the contraband from the hideout.
During the operation, officers also seized one mobile phone and a scooty bearing registration number AS01FY6279, which are believed to be linked to the alleged illegal narcotics activity.
Following the seizure, Ajay Mahato was taken into custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated against him under the relevant provisions of the law.
The operation forms part of the Guwahati Police’s ongoing drive to curb the illegal drug trade and strengthen enforcement against narcotics-related offences in the city. Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the seized contraband and identify any other individuals connected to the network.
