Guwahati, June 28: The Guwahati Police rescued a 45-year-old man from Silchar who was allegedly kidnapped from the Beltola Wireless area of Guwahati, cracking the case within eight hours of it being reported. Three accused persons have been arrested and the victim was rescued safely during a swift police operation.
According to Guwahati Police, the victim was allegedly abducted from the Beltola Wireless locality, following which the accused demanded a ransom of ₹6 lakh for his release. Acting on the complaint, a team of the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) from Dispur Police Station immediately launched an investigation and traced the accused within hours.
The rescue operation was carried out with the assistance of the Dima Hasao Police, resulting in the safe recovery of the victim and the apprehension of all three suspects allegedly involved in the kidnapping.
The arrested persons have been identified as:
Abdul Gaffar (37), a resident of Sribhumi district. Sahab Uddin (38), a resident of Sribhumi district. Bikash Deka (36), a resident of Baihata Chariali in Kamrup district.
Police also seized a Scorpio SUV allegedly used in the commission of the crime. According to officials, the vehicle was found without a registration number plate and has been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
In a post shared on X, Guwahati Police said the prompt response of the investigating team enabled officers to solve the kidnapping case within just eight hours of it being reported, ensuring the victim’s safe rescue and the arrest of all the accused. The police further confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested individuals.
The successful operation highlights the coordinated efforts of the Guwahati Police and Dima Hasao Police in responding swiftly to serious crimes and ensuring public safety. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the alleged kidnapping, verify the sequence of events and determine whether any other persons were involved in the conspiracy.
