Guwahati, Assam: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced the state’s vision to transform the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Tirtha into a world-class cultural destination to commemorate the birth centenary of Assam’s legendary cultural icon, Bhupen Hazarika.
Sharing the update through a post on X after reviewing the project’s concept proposals, the Chief Minister described the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Tirtha as “a sacred space in Assam’s cultural and civilisational consciousness.” He said the redevelopment aims to preserve and celebrate the timeless legacy of the legendary artist, fondly known as Sudhakantha.
According to Sarma, the proposed transformation will feature thoughtfully designed infrastructure, including a new amphitheatre and immersive digital experiences that will enable visitors to engage with the life, works, and enduring contributions of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in a modern and interactive setting.
During his site visit, the Chief Minister reviewed the conceptual designs prepared for the redevelopment project. He stated that the initiative seeks to create a cultural landmark where future generations can celebrate the life and legacy of one of Assam’s most revered personalities while strengthening the state’s rich cultural heritage.
