Cachar, Assam: Acting on routine surveillance, Cachar Police intercepted a vehicle at Gobindagupa Bridge under Kalain Police Station and seized 1,490 medium-sized packets of foreign-made cigarettes that were allegedly being transported without valid documents. One person was arrested during the operation.
According to an official post shared by Cachar Police on X, the vehicle was stopped for inspection at Gobindagupa Bridge, where officers discovered the large consignment of foreign-made cigarettes. The consignment was reportedly being transported without the required supporting documents.
Following the seizure, police arrested one individual in connection with the case. The identity of the accused has not yet been disclosed.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the origin of the consignment, its intended destination, and whether it is linked to a wider network involved in the illegal transportation of foreign tobacco products. Authorities are also examining possible violations under applicable laws.
The seizure is part of the ongoing efforts of Assam Police to strengthen enforcement against the illegal movement of contraband goods across the state. Officials have stated that the investigation is continuing, and further details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
