Kamrup: The Assam government has intensified efforts to accelerate the development of the Tech City project at Bongora in Kamrup district, with Education Minister Ranoj Pegu conducting a comprehensive review of the upcoming technology and innovation hub on Wednesday.
According to a post shared by the minister on X, the review meeting was attended by Gopinath Narayan, Principal Secretary of the Information Technology Department, and Pawar Narsing Sambhaji, Managing Director of the Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited (AMTRON), the agency responsible for developing the project.
Built across nearly 100 acres, Tech City is being developed as an integrated Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) and Information Technology Park with the vision of making it a leading centre for technology, electronics manufacturing and digital innovation in Northeast India.
During the inspection, the minister reviewed the functioning of several operational facilities, including the 3D Printing Centre of Excellence, 5G Experience Centre, Drone Remote Pilot Training School, and the transit campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati. He noted that these institutions are expected to strengthen innovation, promote entrepreneurship and equip young people with industry-oriented skills in emerging technologies.
Pegu also said the state government is preparing a comprehensive roadmap to ensure the effective utilisation of the infrastructure already established at Tech City. According to him, the strategy will focus on attracting startups, research organisations and technology-driven industries while creating an environment that encourages innovation and investment.
The minister said the project has the potential to generate new employment opportunities for the youth of Assam and contribute to the state’s long-term goal of building a robust knowledge-based economy.
Once fully developed, Tech City is expected to serve as a key centre for advanced technology, research, skill development and industrial collaboration, reinforcing Assam’s position as an emerging destination for the information technology and electronics sectors in the Northeast.
