Guwahati, July 20: In a major success against property crimes, the Basistha Police of the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) have arrested three alleged burglars and solved two burglary cases reported earlier this month. The operation resulted in the recovery of stolen cash, electronic gadgets, an e-rickshaw allegedly used in the crimes, and several tools believed to have been used to carry out the break-ins.
According to the Guwahati Police, the two burglary incidents were reported at Basistha Police Station on July 11 and July 13. After launching an investigation, police teams gathered evidence and tracked down the suspects before carrying out a coordinated operation that led to their arrest.
The arrested persons have been identified as:
- Manoj Baruah (24) of Simaluguri.
- Mridul Basumatary alias Thangbai (21) of Seuj Nagar.
- Nikhil Deka (24) of Belsor.
During the investigation, police recovered several items allegedly linked to the burglaries. These include an LED television, a Dell laptop, cash amounting to ₹75,000, and an e-rickshaw bearing registration number AS01GR2027, which investigators believe was used by the accused while committing the offences.
In addition, officers seized a hammer, a screwdriver, two pairs of pliers, and a wire cutter, which are suspected to have been used to gain entry into the targeted premises.
Police have initiated legal proceedings against the three accused under the relevant provisions of law. Investigators are continuing to examine the group’s activities to determine whether they may have been involved in other burglary cases reported in Guwahati and nearby areas.
The Guwahati Police announced the breakthrough through an official post on X, describing the operation as a significant achievement by the Basistha Police team in solving the twin burglary cases. Further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the accused persons’ involvement in property-related offences.
This latest breakthrough reflects the ongoing efforts of the Guwahati Police to strengthen crime detection, recover stolen property, and enhance public safety across the city.
