Guwahati: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Guwahati Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers after recovering suspected heroin and a large quantity of codeine-based cough syrup during a raid in the city’s Azara area.
According to Guwahati Police, the operation was conducted jointly by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) and personnel from Azara Police Station. Acting on specific inputs, the team raided a shop at Mojoli, where narcotic substances were allegedly being stored.
During the search, police recovered 15 vials of suspected heroin weighing approximately 20 grams. The team also seized 15 bottles containing Codeine Phosphate and Triprolidine Hydrochloride syrup, with a total weight of around 1,999 grams.
Two individuals were taken into custody in connection with the seizure. The accused have been identified as Tiloka Kalita (40) and Debajit Kalita (29), both residents of Mukalmua.
Police have initiated legal proceedings against the duo under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to determine the source of the seized contraband and whether the accused are linked to a wider drug trafficking network.
The latest operation is part of Guwahati Police’s ongoing drive to crack down on the illegal drug trade and curb the circulation of narcotic substances in and around the city.
