Guwahati: A drug-related operation in Guwahati’s Borpathar area has resulted in the arrest of a suspected drug peddler and the seizure of 63 grams of heroin, according to Guwahati Police.
An East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Basistha Police Station conducted a raid at a suspected hideout in Borpathar and apprehended a 43-year-old man identified by police as Mintu Ahmed, also known as Ahmed.
Police said the operation led to the recovery of 52 vials of heroin, with the total seized substance weighing approximately 63 grams.
Apart from the suspected narcotics, officers also seized three mobile phones and an Activa scooter in connection with the operation. Guwahati Police identified the scooter by registration number AS01DM2463.
The action was carried out as part of ongoing efforts by the East Guwahati Police District to curb the circulation and distribution of illegal drugs in the city.
Guwahati Police said legal action has been initiated against the arrested person. Further details regarding the case, including the source of the suspected heroin and its intended destination, are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
The latest operation adds to a series of anti-drug actions by Assam Police in Guwahati, with law enforcement agencies continuing efforts to identify suspected narcotics networks and prevent the distribution of illegal substances.
