Guwahati, September 6, 2026: Vice President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan arrived in Guwahati on Sunday for his maiden visit to Assam since taking charge of the constitutional office, receiving a warm welcome from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other dignitaries.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the Vice President at Guwahati and said that his visit would include a series of programmes through which people in the state would benefit from his experience and words of wisdom. The Vice President’s arrival in Assam marks the beginning of a four-day visit to the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh from September 6 to 9.
During his two-day programme in Assam, Vice President Radhakrishnan is scheduled to participate in several academic and public engagements in Guwahati. On Sunday, he will attend the golden jubilee celebrations of Geetanagar College, formerly known as Kanya Mahavidyalaya, at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra. He is also scheduled to attend the convocation ceremony of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS) in Guwahati.
On September 7, the Vice President is scheduled to visit Gauhati University, where he will take part in a foundation stone-laying programme. He will subsequently interact with students, faculty members and leading citizens at the university’s Convention Centre. Following his Assam engagements, he is scheduled to travel to Shillong in Meghalaya.
The Assam visit forms part of the Vice President’s wider Northeast tour, which also includes engagements in Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. In the subsequent stages of the tour, he is scheduled to visit Imphal and Itanagar and attend various academic, cultural and public programmes.
The visit is significant as it brings the Vice President to Assam for the first time since assuming office and provides an opportunity for interaction with educational institutions, students, public representatives and citizens across the region.
