Assam Budget Session Begins Today; State Budget to Be Presented on July 10

Guwahati: The Budget Session of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly commenced on Monday, marking the beginning of a crucial phase in the State’s legislative calendar. Proceedings on the opening day began at 9:30 am and are expected to focus on the State’s financial roadmap and a series of key legislative reforms.

A major highlight of the session will be the presentation of the Assam Budget for the financial year 2026–27 by Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah on July 10.

During the session, the State Government is also expected to introduce several important Bills that have already received Cabinet approval. These proposed legislations are aimed at strengthening governance, promoting economic growth, improving the ease of doing business, and enhancing administrative efficiency across Assam.

Among the Bills scheduled to be tabled is the Assam Tourism (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which seeks to further strengthen the State’s tourism sector. The Assam Shops and Establishments (Amendment) Bill, 2026 will also be introduced to modernise regulations governing commercial establishments and workplaces.

The Assembly is also expected to consider the Assam Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Bill, 2026, aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and supporting the growth of small businesses. Additionally, the Assam Ease of Doing Business (Amendment) Bill, 2026 proposes measures to simplify regulatory procedures and improve the investment climate in the State.

Another significant proposal is the Assam Public Trust Bill, 2026, which seeks to regulate the administration and management of public trusts. The Government is also set to introduce the Guwahati Satellite Town Development Bill, 2026, intended to facilitate planned urban expansion in and around Guwahati.

The Assam Land and Revenue Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 will also be tabled during the session, proposing amendments to strengthen land administration and revenue management.

The Budget Session is expected to witness extensive deliberations on the State’s fiscal priorities and legislative agenda, with discussions likely to shape Assam’s economic, administrative, and developmental policies for the coming years.
