Guwahati: Assam’s flood situation remains critical despite a decline in the number of affected districts, with the state’s flood-related death toll increasing to 75 after seven more people lost their lives during the past 24 hours.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), all the latest fatalities were reported from Sivasagar district, which continues to be one of the worst-hit areas in the ongoing flood crisis.
The latest flood bulletin issued by ASDMA stated that seven districts remain affected by floodwaters—Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup Metropolitan. Although flood conditions have improved in some parts of the state, thousands of residents are still facing significant challenges.
Official figures show that 3,32,639 people across 622 villages under 21 revenue circles continue to be impacted by the floods. Many families remain displaced as inundated homes, damaged infrastructure and disrupted livelihoods continue to hamper normal life.
The disaster management authority also reported that no urban flooding has been recorded anywhere in Assam at present, indicating that the situation in urban areas has stabilised.
The agricultural sector continues to bear the brunt of the disaster, with approximately 45,341.98 hectares of cropland still under water. The prolonged inundation has caused extensive damage to standing crops, raising concerns over the livelihoods of farmers and agricultural production.
Meanwhile, rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts are continuing across the affected districts. State agencies and local authorities are working to provide essential assistance, restore public services and closely monitor the evolving flood situation as recovery operations progress.
