Doctors at Nemcare Hospital say Garima Saikia Garg is physically stable but requires specialised counselling and continued care following emotional distress.
Guwahati, November 4, 2026: The next phase of medical care for Garima Saikia Garg is expected to take place in Mumbai, although doctors and family members are yet to finalise the treatment facility. The development comes after a medical assessment at Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati, where she was admitted following a sudden illness last week.
Garima, wife of late Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg, has been experiencing emotional stress and difficulties with sleep and eating, according to doctors treating her.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, November 3, Dr Hitesh Baruah said her physical condition was stable and she was not in immediate danger. However, he emphasised that she needed professional counselling, adequate rest and continued medical attention.
Mumbai Counselling Recommended for Garima Saikia Garg
The medical team has advised that Garima receive specialised counselling at a suitable institution in Mumbai.
Dr Baruah explained that although doctors at Nemcare Hospital had provided the necessary medical care, they believed further counselling at a specialised centre would benefit her recovery.
He indicated that the proposed counselling and treatment could require approximately 15 to 20 days.
The name of the Mumbai hospital has not yet been announced. According to the doctor, further consultations with her family will determine the arrangements.
Garima Fell Ill During Guwahati School Programme
Garima was hospitalised on Saturday, October 31, after becoming unwell while attending a programme at Assam Jatiya Bidyalay in Guwahati.
She was subsequently taken to Nemcare Hospital, where doctors examined her and began treatment.
Speaking about her condition, Dr Baruah said her medical parameters, including blood pressure and blood sugar levels, were within normal ranges.
However, the medical team continued to express concern about her emotional well-being and difficulties getting sufficient sleep.
Doctors have recommended professional support and adequate rest as part of her continued care.
Doctor Requests Public to Respect Her Personal Space
During the press conference, Dr Baruah appealed to the people of Assam to support Garima by allowing her sufficient time to recover.
He requested that members of the public refrain from placing additional pressure on her or making demands concerning her future activities and personal decisions.
The doctor stressed that her health should remain the priority and that she needed a peaceful environment during this period.
Garima has been dealing with emotional difficulties following the death of her husband, renowned singer Zubeen Garg.
Further Treatment Arrangements Awaited
Although specialised treatment in Mumbai has been recommended, the medical team has not confirmed when Garima will travel or which institution will provide the counselling.
Further decisions are expected following discussions between the treating doctors and her family members.
For now, doctors have emphasised the importance of rest, emotional support and appropriate medical care.
