Guwahati: The Department of Mathematics at Gauhati University organised an academic seminar featuring Prof. Kalyan Chakraborty, Senior Professor and Head of the Department of Mathematics at SRM University-AP. His invited lecture, titled “Fruits to Algebraic Curves,” demonstrated how a simple problem involving fruit sales can be developed into a Diophantine equation, connecting elementary problem-solving with advanced mathematical concepts.
Prof. Chakraborty, who previously served as Director of the Kerala School of Mathematics and as a professor at the Harish-Chandra Research Institute in Allahabad, discussed the relationship between number theory and algebraic geometry through the lecture.
Faculty members from Gauhati University and Assam Engineering Institute, a postdoctoral research fellow from SRM University-AP, research scholars from the Chennai Mathematical Institute, along with students and research scholars from Gauhati University, participated in the programme. The seminar provided an opportunity for academic interaction and exploration of mathematical ideas.
