Guwahati: A West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) team has arrested a suspected drug peddler in Gorchuk after allegedly recovering heroin and cash during an operation, Guwahati Police said in an official update.
The accused has been identified as Raja Prasad Sha of Katabari, according to the police. The operation was conducted by a team from Gorchuk Police Station, which falls under the West Guwahati Police District.
Police said Sha was apprehended with 10 vials containing heroin, with the seized substance weighing 12.49 grams in total. Officers also recovered Rs 3,220 in cash during the operation.
The seizure was made in the Gorchuk area as part of ongoing action against the illegal drug trade in Guwahati. Following the arrest and recovery, police said that legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused.
The latest operation adds to drug-control actions carried out by Guwahati Police in different parts of the city. Gorchuk Police Station and the West Guwahati Police District have previously been involved in operations involving the seizure of suspected narcotics and arrests of alleged drug peddlers.
Police have not disclosed further details regarding the alleged source of the heroin, its intended destination or whether other individuals are being investigated in connection with the case.
The investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged possession of the contraband and whether the accused has links to a wider drug-supply network.
