Guwahati, April 25: Continuing its intensified crackdown against narcotics under the ongoing “War on Drugs” campaign, Guwahati Police arrested an alleged drug peddler during a raid conducted in the Katabari area of the city.
According to an official update shared by Guwahati Police on X, a team from Gorchuk Police Station under the West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) carried out a raid at a hideout in Katabari based on specific inputs regarding illegal drug-related activities.
During the operation, police apprehended Lokendra Singh (58), a resident of Lakhipur. Officials stated that one plastic soap case containing suspected heroin was recovered from his possession.
The seized contraband weighed approximately 11.48 grams. Police suspect the narcotics were intended for illegal distribution in and around the city.
Following the seizure, the accused was taken into custody and legal proceedings were initiated under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The operation forms part of the continuing anti-drug drive being conducted by Guwahati Police to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb the spread of narcotics across the city.
Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain possible links of the accused with other members of the drug supply chain and to identify the source of the contraband.
Guwahati Police has intensified surveillance and intelligence-based operations in recent months as part of its sustained campaign against narcotics trafficking and abuse in Assam.
