Guwahati, June 28: The Guwahati Police have solved a house break-in case reported from Nalapara with the arrest of two persons and the recovery of melted gold believed to be part of the stolen property, a stolen scooty, house-breaking tools and cash.
According to Guwahati Police, the breakthrough was achieved by a team of the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) from Basistha Police Station, which arrested the prime accused, Md. Jiaur Rahman alias Kele (22), a resident of Kochua, in connection with the house break-in.
Police said that during interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that the stolen gold ornaments had been handed over to Md. Baharul Islam (38), a resident of Tarabari, who had allegedly melted the ornaments into a 2-gram gold bar and a gold nose ring in an attempt to conceal their identity. Based on this disclosure, police arrested Baharul Islam in a follow-up operation.
During the investigation, officers seized the 2-gram melted gold, a stolen scooty bearing registration number AS01FS2137, house-breaking tools allegedly used in the commission of the offence, and ₹590 in cash from the possession of the accused.
In a post shared on X, Guwahati Police stated that the EGPD team from Basistha Police Station successfully cracked the house break-in case through prompt investigation and follow-up action, leading to the arrest of both accused and the recovery of crucial evidence linked to the case.
Police have initiated legal proceedings against the arrested individuals under the relevant provisions of law. Further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused were involved in other house break-in incidents and to identify any additional stolen property connected to the case.
The successful operation reflects the continuing efforts of the Guwahati Police to crack property-related crimes through intelligence-based investigations and swift police action, while strengthening public safety and confidence in law enforcement.
