Guwahati, October 14, 2026: In an effort to strengthen awareness against drug abuse among young people, Guwahati Police organised 10 awareness programmes across educational institutions in Guwahati on October 12 as part of the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan.
The campaign focused on educating students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the legal provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The initiative was conducted by the CGPD team in collaboration with police station and outpost teams and the staff of the participating institutions, according to an update shared by Guwahati Police on its official X account.
The awareness sessions covered several schools, colleges and a university, reaching students across different parts of the city. The participating institutions were B. Barooah College, Cotton Collegiate HS School, Kamrup Academy HS School, Assam Engineering Institute at Chandmari, Zoo Road Vidyapith High School, Noonmati High School, Satgaon High School, Panbari High School, Rupnagar Vidyapith High School and Down Town University.
Senior police officers, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central, also participated in the programme alongside police personnel and institutional staff.
Through direct interaction with students, the campaign aimed to improve understanding of the risks associated with substance abuse and familiarise young people with the legal framework governing narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in India.
Awareness initiatives in educational institutions can play an important role in encouraging informed decision-making among students and highlighting the wider social and legal consequences of drug abuse. Collaboration between police personnel, educators and students is also an important element of community-level efforts to address substance abuse.
Highlighting the importance of awareness in the fight against drugs, Guwahati Police stated in its social media post, “An informed generation is our strongest defence against drugs.”
The 10 programmes form part of the awareness efforts being undertaken under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, with a focus on educating young people and encouraging a more informed response to the challenges associated with drug abuse.
