Guwahati Police carried out two successful operations in the city, including a drug-related crackdown in the Basistha area and the recovery of a stolen scooty in a separate theft case, officials said on Sunday.

According to police, an East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Basistha Police Station launched an operation at Khanapara based on specific intelligence inputs regarding narcotics activity and drug abuse in the locality.

During the operation, police rescued four drug addicts from the area and facilitated their transfer to a rehabilitation centre for treatment and recovery. Officials stated that the initiative was part of ongoing efforts to address substance abuse and help affected individuals return to normal life through medical support and counselling.

Police also apprehended a suspected drug peddler identified as Nur Hussain alias “Amitabh Bachchan” (28), a resident of Sarumataria. During the search operation, the team recovered five boxes containing heroin weighing approximately 39 grams along with 40 vials suspected to be linked to narcotics distribution.

The seized contraband has been taken into custody and legal proceedings have been initiated under relevant sections of the law. Police officials said further investigation is underway to determine possible links to larger drug trafficking networks operating in and around Guwahati.

In another operation, a city police team from Dispur Police Station, with assistance from Paltanbazar Police Station, recovered a stolen scooty bearing registration number AS01DW4762.

Police arrested the accused, identified as Kangkan Haloi (25) from Nalbari district, in connection with the vehicle theft case. The stolen two-wheeler was recovered from his possession during the operation.

Officials confirmed that legal action has been initiated against the accused and further investigation is in progress.

The twin operations reflect the continued efforts of Guwahati Police to curb crime, tackle drug-related offences, and strengthen public safety across the city.
